Easy House Cleaning Tips

Get Rid of the Mop!

For the most part I’m mopping the floor seems like a good cleaning tactic. But in reality all it does is spread dirt around. A much better solution is to use a steamer to clean the floor instead. The hot temperature of the steam cleaner sanitizers the floor and there is also no residue left over from cleaning products.

Self-cleaning toilet? Magic!

Okay, okay, okay.  There’s no special magic like a self-cleaning toilet. Yes, we lied there a little bit. Hopefully you can forgive us. But, the tip that we have here is to clean your toilet while you sleep.

What you want to do is pour a cup of white cooking vinegar into the toilet bowl before you go to sleep and then drop in a few denture tablets. Then when you wake up in the morning flush the toilet and wipe everything clean.

You will have  the cleanest toilet you have ever seen in your whole life and this will only cost you a few dollars.

Neglected Scrubbing!

What do we mean by neglected scrubbing? It’s quite simple.  Neglected scrubbing is taking the time to think about the places that you generally don’t see but get very dirty. This is where germs and bacteria can grow and cause you to get sick.

Think about places such as the sides and behind the toilet. What about under bins that don’t move too often. How about under your fridge and all the crumbs, dirt and grime that get stuck under there.

Get it cleaning. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s clean. Generally that means it’s more dirty!

Dust Your Bulbs

What we are talking about is literally dusting your light bulbs in your home.

Have you ever noticed that when a light bulb is dusty it does not emit as much light as I clean one? You may have found in the past that’s when you don’t get as much light as you want from a bulb you buy a stronger one. When in reality you probably do not need a stronger light bulb and all you need to do is your light bulbs a wipe down each month.

Oven Cleaning Hack

Have you ever tried to scrub your oven racks? Have you found that no matter how much you scrub it is almost impossible to get rid of all the build-up?

An easy way to deal with this is to take a large black plastic bin bag and then really spray the oven racks with a strong cleaner or degreaser. While you do this make sure that you cover your mouth with a cloth so you don’t breathe in any of the degreaser.

Then put the oven racks inside the black bin bag and tie it off. In the morning after the cleaner has had time to work overnight rinse the racks with lukewarm water and you might just be able to wipe the build-up away. If not you will be able to lightly scrub and everything should fall off.

The best part is a strong oven cleaner or degreaser should not cost more than about $5 to $8.

Level up your Vacuum Cleaner

Do you have a very cheap vacuum cleaner that you’ve used for the better part of 10 years somewhere in your closet? Oh how so MANY people would answer that question with a definite yes and would not even have to think about it.  It kind of makes us giggle a little.

The reality is that your cheap shoddy $50 vacuum cleaner that you bought so long ago is junk and can potentially be causing health issues in your home as it does not vacuum all the dust and allergens in your carpet.

You want to get a decent vacuum cleaner that cost at least a few hundred dollars. We’re not going to make a recommendation here about the vacuum cleaner that you should buy because we have readers from all over the world and it depends on what you need. But if you go to your local department store and just tell the sales rep that you’re looking for a professional-grade vacuum cleaner that is going to last you a decade and not a cheap vacuum cleaner you will get yourself looked after.
